Join New York State Historian Devin Lander for a fascinating journey into the origins of the psychedelic art movement of the 1960s centered around Timothy Leary’s communal “transpersonative living experiment” on a 2,500 acre-Gilded Age estate in the village of Millbrook, Dutchess County. The Millbrook commune became well-known among the burgeoning '60s counterculture as a place of psychedelic experimentation, but it was also a space in which a variety of creative artists gathered and produced some of the earliest public productions of what came to be known as psychedelic art. This presentation will explore the origins of the Millbrook commune as a center of multimedia art as well as the many artists who spent time there.
