Bioarchaeology

The Bioarchaeology collection at the NYSM includes human skeletal remains from archaeological sites in New York State that range from Native American sites several thousand years old to 19th century Euro-American sites. A unique and important source of information about life in the past, human remains represent once-living people for whom special considerations apply. For Native American human remains subject to the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, access may be limited. For collections that are no longer accessible, such as the 19th century Albany Almshouse Cemetery, a complete set of osteological documentation is available for research.
